Public Information Centres (PICs)

Consultation activities during Phase 1 of the EA will focus on informing stakeholders on the planning and EA process, developing a Study Plan and providing stakeholders with opportunities to review and provide input on transportation needs, transportation planning alternatives, criteria for assessing planning alternatives, the selection of preferred planning alternative(s), and recommendations for subsequent work.

Four rounds of Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held for Phase 1 of this study. Each round of PICs will include individual events held in Niagara, Hamilton, and Halton and will be supplemented by follow-up activities (such as workshops) where appropriate.

In addition, brief presentations were provided each night at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to provide a study overview.

The focus of this round of PICs was to present and receive feedback on the assessment of the transportation alternatives and the draft multi-modal Transportation Development Strategy.

PIC (Round) #1

The NGTA Project Team held the first round of Public Information Centres (PICs) in June 2007. Three PICs were held in locations across the Preliminary Study Area. The Public Information Centres were conducted as a drop-in format from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on each of the three nights.

The purpose of the PICs was to present and obtain feedback on the findings of the initial data gathering exercise that has been undertaken to obtain information about existing environmental and transportation conditions within the Preliminary Study Area. In addition, the Project Team presented key aspects of the Study Plan that has been developed for this study. These aspects included the study background, the EA process that is being followed, the policy context for the study and the proposed consultation program. The PICs also included an opportunity for attendees to apply for membership on the study’s Community Advisory Group (CAG). The CAG will act as a working group and provide the Project Team with advice and community perspectives on study issues and work completed throughout Phase 1 of this study.

Public information sessions were held on June 12, 14 and 18, 2007 in Rockton, St. Catharines and Burlington. For more information, including a copy of the display material, location specific summary reports, and a consolidated PIC overview document, refer to the table below.
